More variety in home styles than you'll find elsewhere in the area. Uptown Whittier and the surrounding older neighborhoods have real character if you like a house with some history, Craftsman and Spanish Revival influences rather than cookie-cutter tract homes.
Neighborhoods
- Uptown Whittier. A walkable, tree-lined historic district with more than 80 cafes and shops, a brewery, a movie theater, and a Friday farmers market.
- Central Park Historic District. Home to early 20th-century Craftsman houses for buyers who want character over a brand-new build.
Schools
Whittier City School District covers K-8 for much of the city, with East Whittier City School District serving other areas, and Whittier Union High School District handling secondary schools.
Parks & Landmarks
Central Park in Uptown Whittier is the anchor, with a statue of Quaker poet John Greenleaf Whittier, the city's namesake. Poet Gardens, a food hall in the historic Nixon Building, is a popular newer addition.
Getting Around
Whittier sits along the 605 and the 60, giving reasonable access to both Downtown LA and the Inland Empire.
What It Costs to Buy Here
Whittier is part of the Los Angeles County market, and prices shift monthly. I publish a market report covering LA County, Orange County, and Pico Rivera every month, check the latest numbers here before you start touring.
